The Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) yesterday hosted a very special group of guests for breaking of fast, at the Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur which coincidentally had just received their Halal certification earlier this year from JAKIM.

The guests were from six orphanages and elderly homes – Rumah Tunas Harapan Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Rumah Siraman Kasih, Rumah Warga Tua Sri Tanjung, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Sg Pinang Klang, Rumah Anak Yatim Darul Taqwa and Rumah Anak Yatim Damai, as well as members of the media.
On hand to greet the guests were YB Dato Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, accompanied by HDC’s CEO Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin.
“This year’s breaking fast with the media and less fortunate bears a different kind of significance,” said Jamil said, “as the venue where this event is being held had just earned its Halal certification early this year. This makes our Iftar event even more meaningful as it reflects the hotel’s commitment to provide halal food and services.”
The guests were treated to a “mother of all menus” – a sumptious spread of dishes and delicacies prepared by Renaissance Hotel. A mock cheque was also presented to the various orphanages prior to breaking of fast, followed by ‘Tazkirah Ramadhan’ by Ustaz Mohammad Ashraf Ibrahim, the Imam of Masjid Wilayah who later led an eight-rakaat solat Tarawikh.
“HDC commends those in the hospitality industry, especially the international hotels that have accommodated the needs of Muslims. In a wider perspective, making it halal for diners and visitors alike means essentially making it safe for them to enjoy the dining facilities of the hotel,” said Jamil.
Young guests and representatives of the orphanages were also given “duit raya” and daily necessities contributed by the hotel and sponsors, including Mydin, Frizz & Fry Food Industries, Syarikat Hang Tuah, Peranan Alaf and Takaful Ikhlas.
