Best Halal practices in products, processes, standards and certification require understanding the concept of absolute Halal Integrity first. This would mean creating Halal knowledge and its application to industry and consumers alike.
The elements in this Halal knowledge creation encompasses fatwa formulation supported by R&D, development of Halal standards, guidelines and reference materials as well as education programmes to communicate and educate both producers and consumers on Halal matters.
Realising an opportunity, HDC introduced a publication called “The Modern Compendium of Halal” series to meet the demands for more comprehensive literature from the Halal perspective.
The Modern Compendium of Halal series is anticipated to produce at least 6 volumes that comprise the fundamentals of Halal philosophy and its industry, Halal certification and Halal supply chain, to name a few.
Last week the Halal Compendium II was unveiled. Launched by YB Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, the series will bridge any knowledge gap present in the supply chain. It will also guide the industry as well as consumers on the meticulous process flow of the Halal supply chain and its operations.
The first publication under this series called “The Essence of Halal”, takes into consideration the topics on the fundamental of Halal and haram, law and administrative regulations on halal, the concept of “istihalah” and other religous food laws.
So as to get the best brains to deliberate on the Compendium, international and local Islamic and Halal experts were invited to participate in this extraordinary book and to position the Halal industry as niche-based.
Prof. Mohammed Hashim Kamali, Prof Joe Regenstein, Dr. Hamzah Mohd Salleh, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Awang, Dr. Mohd Radhi Ibrahim and Dr. Noriah Ramli have all given their outstanding pieces of writing to ensure that the publication is of public benefit. Targetted for researchers and academicians, the publication has become a point of reference and facilitates innovative research in the Halal industry.
At the World Halal Research Summit 2011, attended by more than 700 participants, HDC believes that the Modern Compendium of Halal Series II will advance the growth of the Halal industry through R&D and innovation excellence within the Halal science. In addition skills and expertise in Halal R&D will also be developed in parallel with the innovation and commercialisation processes that are far-reaching within the Halal industry.
ABOUT MODERN COMPENDIUM ON HALAL SERIES II
In 2009, HDC had evolved a Halal Hub Master Plan that identified two development objectives for Malaysia. One is to make Malaysia the global hub in Halal know-how, focusing on R&D and the other, best practices in products, processes, standards and certification through the development and application of the concept on ‘absolute Halal integrity’.
Absolute Halal integrity simply means creating the Halal knowledge and its application to the industry and consumers. The elements in this Halal knowledge creation encompasses fatwa formulation supported by R&D, development of Halal standards, guidelines and reference materials as well as education programmes to communicate and educate both producers and consumers on Halal matters.
As a result, HDC saw an opportunity to introduce a publication called “The Modern Compendium of Halal” series. Industry demands saw the need for more comprehensive literature from the Halal perspective. The Modern Compendium of Halal series is anticipated to produce at least 6 volumes that comprise of the fundamentals of Halal philosophy and its industry, Halal certification and Halal supply chain, to name a few.
This series has also been created to bridge the knowledge gap in the whole spectrum of Halal industry aspects, to guide the industry as well as consumers on the meticulous process flow of the Halal supply chain and its operations; to expose the concepts of Halal product development and other religious dietary laws plus to reveal the “real-life” practical industry experience and knowledge in Halal product operations and certifications.
The first publication under this series called “The Essence of Halal”, takes into consideration the topics on the fundamental of Halal and haram, law and administrative regulations on halal, the concept of “istihalah” and Halal industry and other religions food law. Both international and local renowned Islamic and Halal experts were invited to participate in this out-of-the-ordinary book to position the Halal industry as the niche and significant market to be explored and conquered.
In conjunction with the theme of the World Halal Research Summit 2011, R&D as the catalyst for growth in the Halal industry, HDC believes that The Modern Compendium of Halal series will instigate the growth of the Halal industry through R&D and innovation excellence within the Halal science. In addition to that, skills and expertise in Halal R&D will also be developed parallel to the increasing number of innovations and commercialisation within the Halal industry in the near future.
